Growing Up

Frank Bloom was born Francis Aloysius Bloom on August 21, 1919 in DeWitt, Clinton County, Iowa. Frank was the fifth child of Joseph Albert Bloom and Florence Mary Conwell (married in 1912). Two of his four older siblings, Mary Frances and Joseph, died a short time after their birth. Thomas Alphonsus, an older brother, served in the United State Navy in World War II and lived until 1981. Anna Alberta, an older sister, lived until 1983.

Frank was raised at the Joseph Bloom house located at 812 Fifth Street in DeWitt, Iowa. His family were devout Catholics who attended the nearby St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

The first photo is labeled as "Frank Bloom Infant". No date is given.

The following photo is labeled "Frank Bloom 1920"; Frank would have been one or two years old.

Frank would have been about ten years old in the next photo. The photo would have been taken about a year after his youngest brother's (Charles) birth.

No date is written on the following photo but Frank appears to be between ten and twelve years old.
